Is July a good time to travel to China next year?

Naturally anyone savvy about international affairs will be aware that China is to host the 2008 Olympics. I’m so proud of them.

I’m intending a visit to China in the early weeks of July, however, knowing that the Olympics start on the 8/8/08 (lucky numbers) – is this such a good idea? I’m worried about lack of accomodation, safety and security in general.
I would appreciate the pros and cons.

Pro: It would probably be really interesting to be able to see the how the people and the government are reacting to the olympics being so close. Places would probably be getting really cleaned up so it won’t be as dirty.
Con: It would probably be really crowded because of people going to watch the Olympics. It would also be VERY hot and humid. Prices would be raised also/
Safety and security would probably get tightened up so nothing goes wrong in the days leading to the Olympics.
I would suggest that you should go a little bit earlier than July or even after the Olympics are over. Things would be less hectic.
Good Luck!
