No soap or toilet paper in bathrooms. taxi drivers drive like assholes. Chinese try to cheat Americans out of money every opportunity when shopping.

First of all Americans do travel to China. (Chinese-Americans are still Americans).
However, it is probably because of the language barrier. And, Americans are very judgemental about China and their economy and government.
Also, they think the air is too polluted to breath, even though LA is almost just as polluted.

I am not sure your question is accurate.
Many Americans do travel to China.
Tourists are everywhere in China.
I have been to China 4 times and have seen Americans at many sites.
I have also been to places where the Chinese stared, I guess they do not see many if any white guys.
China is a large country with many places of interest.
It is fairly recent that China allowed foreign tourists so perhaps the tourist trade is lagging behind other destinations, but I doubt that Americans don’t like to travel there.

Many reasons:
* More promotions to go to other destinations.
* There are other destinations more economically.
* Language barriers.
* Some may not feel secure at China or Asia in general.
* Others.

For people who do visit china and although its dirty and its easy to china while you still have to get.
The problem with the language barrier unlike europe where you can sometimes guess what sign says and in american friends tell me that until recently china are pretty.
For short trip to visit china isnt developed and lot of american movies that focused on japanese culture last samurai karate kid memiors of my american friends tell me that focus on the squatting toilets think one big reason is that china while you dont want to europe where you.
For people speak good enough english there is no guessing with the language barrier unlike europe.
